We stopped at a friends house while caroling and noticed they didn't have Christmas lights up. This particular friend lost her husband over the summer so I'm assuming Christmas lights on the house were low on her list of things to do.
My good friend michelle suggested that we gather our lights, extension cords and husbands and go brighten their holiday!
I did some investigating and found a 2 hour time frame that she'd be gone. Michelle and the guys hung the lights while I watched kids. I took her girls to a dinner at our church so that they wouldn't get home until it was dark to get a full surprise. They turned out so pretty and I think they were all thrilled. The best part is, she has no clue that it was us.
I'm pretty sure it was just as fun for all of us to do this and to see her excitement as it was for her to receive it!
*update... In just two days time amber and her detective skills have solved the mystery!
I took the girls out last night to look at Christmas lights so Joey could get some work done from home. We drove by Amber's and I told the girls that daddy and his friends put lights on that house. They asked why and I explained how important it is to do nice things for other people especially when they're in need. I reminded them that Adison and Adley's daddy lives in heaven so he's not able to put lights up for them. Molly replied "mommy that's making my eyes water".
It was so sweet. I thought it was funny that she didn't say that's making me cry... I guess the only crying she knows is the screaming and whining kind. :-)
Avery started rambling about how she puts money in that bucket for those people who don't have any toys. "and mommy... Some people don't even have food, we need to take them some food"
Presley of course was clueless but she'll learn eventually.
I got the most sincere thank you note from Amber. It talked about how excited her girls were to see the lights, and how it really felt like the spirit of Christmas.
Yay!! Mission accomplished! It felt so good I want to go do more!
